The search for a swimmer who went missing in the River Forth has been scaled down.

George Gibson, 44, from Alloa, disappeared while trying to swim across the river at Kincardine Bridge just before 2000 BST on Friday.

Forth Coastguard said the search had been terminated as the chances of anyone still being alive were slim.

However, Fife Constabulary, said they were continuing to search for Mr Gibson.

The force's search was stood down on Saturday night but was expected to resume early on Sunday.
