A murder hunt has begun after the death of a man who was hit on the head with a blunt object in south London.

Alper Pasha, 43, was discovered by police lying unconscious outside a KFC restaurant in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, at about 2305 BST on Thursday.

The man and two friends were involved in what police called an altercation with three other men.

He died at a south London hospital on Monday, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

Officers know the man's identity and his next-of-kin have been informed although his name has not been released.

The Metropolitan Police are looking for three suspects all said to be in their 30s.

Coldharbour Lane was closed in both directions following the incident. No arrests have been made.

Det Insp Will Reynolds said: "We have yet to trace the two friends that were with the victim. They had left the scene prior to police arrival.

"We urge them to come forward and make themselves known. They are key to understanding what may have led up to the altercation.

"We stress that they are needed as potential witnesses and are not being treated as suspects."
