Detectives investigating the murder of an 83-year-old Worcestershire man said they have stepped up the "crucial" hunt for his missing car.

Police have renewed the appeal for information to help locate the blue Ford Focus, registration MH05 DFN, which belonged to the victim Paul Cox.

The "jeans blue" car has scrape markings on the passenger side as well as paint damage to the front bumper.

Mr Cox's body was found at his home in Waseley Road, in Rednal, on Friday.

Police made the discovery after they received a call from a concerned neighbour.

A force spokesman said Mr Cox, who lived alone, died as a result of being attacked.

He added the car was taken from his driveway between 1930 BST on Thursday and 0800 BST on Friday.

Ch Insp Amanda Blakeman, of West Mercia Police, said: "It is crucial that we find this vehicle as soon as possible and I would again urge anyone who has seen it, thinks they have seen someone they know driving it or indeed suspects they know who has acquired it to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"We also want to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity around Mr Cox's address at Waseley Road between Thursday and Friday, or if they came into contact with him and can help us build up a picture of his final movements."

She added a number of people had already given them information.

"The local community is clearly shocked by the tragic circumstances and senseless nature of this man's death, as we are," she said.

"Any information, no matter how small or inconsequential it may seem, could be vital so please get in touch if you know anything."

A murder incident room has been set up at Redditch Police Station.
