Police have named a man they want to speak to about an armed robbery on a post office in Dorset.

Officers said Colin Douglas, 25, from Weymouth, is wanted for questioning about Wednesday's raid in the town.

A police officer was threatened with a gun and a woman's car was stolen. People should not approach Mr Douglas and should call 999.

Another Weymouth man, a 39-year-old held on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on bail.

Armed police and helicopters scoured the seaside town after a masked man carrying a gun raided the post office, which is inside a Londis store in Abbotsbury Road, at about 1540 GMT.

The robber escaped in a Nissan Almera car and threatened a police officer with a gun when he tried to stop him. The man then threatened a woman before stealing her Saab convertible car.

No shots were fired during the incident and no-one was injured, officers added.

Detectives later recovered both cars.

Police closed Benville Road in an effort to capture the man who was wearing a cream hooded top with dark stripes along the arms and a dark striped top underneath.

He was described as wearing dark trousers and dark shoes with a white motif across the toes. He was also wearing a balaclava and dark gloves.

Officers described him as having the tattoo of a tiger on his left arm.

The post office was cordoned off after the incident.
