Dame Barbara Mills, the first female Director of Public Prosecutions, has died aged 70 after suffering a stroke.
Dame Barbara rose to prominence in the 1980s as a prosecuting barrister involved in some of the decade's most high profile cases.
These included the Guinness trial and the trial of Michael Fagan who broke into the Queen's bedroom.
Dame Barbara held the role of DPP for six years from 1992 after heading the Serious Fraud Office.
In the marathon 112-day Guinness trial, four men were accused of involvement in a conspiracy to drive up the price of shares in the company during a 1986 takeover battle for drinks firm Distillers.
Former Guinness chairman Ernest Saunders, Gerald Ronson, Sir Jack Lyons and Anthony Parnes were convicted in 1990.
In 1982, Michael Fagan scaled the walls around Buckingham Palace and spent 10 minutes talking to the Queen in her bedroom.
