A Cardiff City football supporter was seriously injured when he fell from a stand during his team's match at Millwall.
Eye-witnesses said the 30-year-old man fell about 20 ft (6m) from the upper tier seating at the New Den ground while celebrating a goal.
A police spokesman said officers were investigating but no-one had been arrested.
The fan is in a serious but stable condition in a south London hospital.
A London ambulance service spokesman said the man had sustained head injuries.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "His injuries are not life-threatening. He is a very, very lucky man."
The spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a criminal matter.
The championship game ended 3-3. Play was not interrupted while paramedics treated the man at the scene.
