A Cardiff City football supporter was seriously injured when he fell from a stand during his team's match at Millwall.

Eye-witnesses said the 30-year-old man fell about 20 ft (6m) from the upper tier seating at the New Den ground while celebrating a goal.

A police spokesman said officers were investigating but no-one had been arrested.

The fan is in a serious but stable condition in a south London hospital.

A London ambulance service spokesman said the man had sustained head injuries.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "His injuries are not life-threatening. He is a very, very lucky man."

The spokesman said the incident was not being treated as a criminal matter.

The championship game ended 3-3. Play was not interrupted while paramedics treated the man at the scene.
