An elderly widow who recently lost her husband has been robbed of £7,000 in a distraction burglary after the thief claimed he was checking electricity.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the woman was "distraught" after losing the money she had saved for the funeral.
The first burglar, thought to be aged about 20, entered her home in Gypsy Castle, Hay-on-Wye, with an accomplice.
Police appealed for information about a "cowardly act" and warned against letting in cold callers.
The caller took the money from a bedroom drawer in the robbery, at about 1700 GMT on Friday.
He claimed he was checking electricity plugs in the kitchen, and the woman discovered the robbery about half an hour later.
